Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review the risks for hepatocellular carcinoma development in HBV-monoinfected patients and HBV/HIV-coinfected patients

  • Describe the potential advantages and disadvantages of various antiviral medications for the treatment of HBV in HIV-infected patients

  • Outline the risks and monitoring guidelines for HBV infection in HIV-infected individuals


Consider the treatment options for a coinfected patient whose treatment regimen did not necessarily take his HBV infection into account.
