All Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered practitioners including physicians, podiatrists, dentists, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists and physician assistants/physician associates who are authorized to dispense controlled substances by the state in which they practice.
The goal of this program is to increase the knowledge, competence, and performance of healthcare providers in safe and effective controlled substance prescribing, pain management, and recognition and treatment of substance use disorders.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Review epidemiology data on alcohol use, binge drinking, and heavy drinking
Review screening tools and diagnostic criteria for alcohol use disorder
Discuss treatment for alcohol withdrawal and alcohol use disorder including pharmacologic and evidence-based psychosocial therapies
