Applying Principles of Harm Reduction to Opioid Use Disorder

Taking a patient-first approach goes a long way in developing a strong, trusting relationship with your patients—especially in the setting of substance use disorders. Patients need to know that you are on their side and able to support—not judge—them on their road to recovery and remission. In this commentary, a social worker provides tips on how to use harm reduction strategies to support your patients with opioid use disorder.
