Tardive Dyskinesia: A Pervasive Concern in Geriatric Psychiatry

Tardive dyskinesia is a movement disorder syndrome caused by prolonged exposure to dopamine receptor–blocking agents, particularly antipsychotics, with older adults facing a higher risk. The condition can lead to serious medical complications and negative impact on quality of life but can be effectively treated with FDA-approved VMAT2 inhibitors.
