Target Audience

This program is intended for healthcare professionals caring for patients with major depressive disorder, including physicians (psychiatrists and family medicine/primary care), nurse practitioners, physician associates, registered nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and psychologists. 

Program Learning Goal

The goal of this program is to improve the knowledge, competence, and performance of learners in effort to optimize treatment for patients with depression.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: 

  • Summarize criteria that determine when to switch or augment medications in MDD, based on best practices

  • Interpret the emerging evidence for the use of antipsychotics in the treatment of MDD

  • Select an evidence-based augmentation agent for a patient with MDD

  • Differentiate augmentation treatment options in MDD based on pharmacology

  • Construct an individualized treatment plan for a patient with MDD, with consideration for patient and medication characteristics
