Target Audience

This educational activity is intended for cardiothoracic surgeons, general surgeons, anesthesiologists, oncologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, radiologists, and other surgical professionals who care for patients on antiplatelet therapy who are experiencing or are at risk of life-threatening bleeding.

Program Learning Goal

The goal of this activity is to improve the knowledge and competence of learners in an effort to optimize treatment for patients with cardiovascular disease.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the mechanistic and pharmacokinetic properties of existing antiplatelet medications

  • Recognize deficiencies in bleeding management for patients undergoing antiplatelet therapy

  • Interpret the latest clinical research on current and new antiplatelet therapy reversal agents to ensure their timely and appropriate use in urgent and emergent surgical settings
