Easing the Agitation Burden: Evidence-Based Approaches to Addressing Agitation Associated With Dementia due to Alzheimer’s Disease

This virtual presentation will cover identification and assessment of agitation in Alzheimer’s disease (AAD) in family practice settings and will provide an overview of current and emerging behavioral and pharmacologic treatment options.

Goal Statement
The goal of this program is to improve the knowledge, competence, and performance of learners in effort to optimize treatment for patients with Alzheimer's.

Target Audience
This program is intended for AAFP members, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physician associates, and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with AAD.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this event, participants should be able to:

  • Employ evidence-based tools for the assessment and diagnosis of AAD
  • Analyze the limitations of historical treatment options for AAD, including efficacy and safety of atypical antipsychotics
  • Assess the latest clinical evidence for new and emerging options for the treatment of AAD
