The goal of this activity is to improve the knowledge, competence, and performance of learners to optimize identification and treatment for patients with bipolar depression both with and without mixed features and anxious distress.

This activity is intended for healthcare professionals caring for patients with bipolar depression, including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician associates, registered nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and psychologists. 

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize bipolar depression by applying diagnostic criteria, including DSM-5-TR specifiers for mixed features and anxious distress, with awareness that mixed features increase the risk of morbidity and mortality.

  • Evaluate the latest clinical evidence for treating bipolar depression, particularly when mixed features or anxious distress are present

  • Develop an individualized treatment plan for patients with bipolar depression, including those with mixed features or anxious distress, to help reduce their risk of morbidity and mortality
