Introduction

In this module, Sharon Cohen, MD, FRCPC, and Alireza Atri, MD, PhD, provide commentary and tips on how best to discuss preservation of brain health and prevention of cognitive decline with patients in general neurology practice settings. This module follows up the recent Think Tank roundtable webinar, “Brain Health Champions: Prevention of Cognitive Decline Through Patient Engagement and Risk Management,” available for on-demand viewing here.

The key points discussed in this module are illustrated with thumbnails from the accompanying downloadable PowerPoint slideset that can be found here or downloaded by clicking any of the slide thumbnails in the module alongside the expert commentary.

Clinical Care Options plans to measure the educational impact of this activity. Several questions will be asked twice: once at the beginning of the activity, and then once again after the discussion that informs the best choice. Your responses will be aggregated for analysis, and your specific responses will not be shared.

Before continuing with this educational activity, please take a moment to answer the following questions.

How many people aged 50-65 years do you provide care for in a typical week?

Which of the following is the most effective approach for initiating brain health discussions with patients in general neurology settings (when a patient is seen for a noncognitive complaint)?

How confident do you feel in your ability to include brain health discussions within billable patient visits?
